Happy Halloween! These cinnamon rolls started out headed to the freezer for the busy month of November. Then they looked so good they convinced how good they would taste for Sunday breakfast. Then a sneaky hand grabbed one and they became Saturday lunch---with leftovers for breakfast in the morning. Have a great Halloween!

There are ghosts in this picture. You can't see them in this uploaded image, but I can--and visitors to my house have verified they are there. It was taken in the dungeon--yes, dungeon--of the Charleston Exchange building and our guide said the cell once held pirates--yes, pirates--in the 17th century. I took the picture and when I developed it--there are images of people in chains---yes, chains. So----I have a picture of ghosts and I cannot explain it. Dan, ever the skeptic, thinks they are painted images---but why wouldn't I have seen these painted images when I took the picture.

Halloween is almost here----and I keep thinking it would be kind of fun to be back in Charleston for Halloween night. They have plenty of ghost tours to go on-----and some of the most fascinating graveyards I have seen. Some are overgrown by choice and some contain some famous occupants. But all were lovely------during the day!

And as I'm looking at the colour of the leaves, in your hand
As we're listening to Chet Baker on the beach, in the sand
When the leaves come falling down,
Woe in September, when the leaves come falling down
Oh when the leaves come falling down
Yeah in September when the leaves come falling down
From "When the Leaves come Falling Down" by Van Morrison

Can't get enough of Autumn. Can't get enough of taking pictures of leaves. I loved the gazebo with the leaf roof. Can't get enough of Van Morrison either. The song above inspired me to buy a Chet Baker CD many years ago---and now---I can't get enough of Chet Baker either!

I made my Hungarian Pastry dough the other day and then the next day found this special picture. It was taken(probably) in 2001 and shows my mom teaching Adam to make pastries. I love everything about this picture---my Mom's old pastry board, her smile and most especially the way her experienced hands are poised and ready to show Adam how to roll up those crescent shaped treats. And I can almost read her lips----giving Adam encouragement on his technique. Adam---if you read this I want you to know that the dough is ready for you to come over and finish up the pastries. Judging from this picture, you look like an expert!

Pretty autumn foliage with red berries? Look closely and you will see Christmas lights. Yes that is right-I put them up today---strung them through tree branches still bearing leaves. It was warm and it just felt like a good idea. I will be thanking myself in November when it is one less thing to do during that busy season.

Some weekends everything just comes together----no pressing needs, no long to-do lists and then you go outside in the morning and see a view like this. Couldn't every weekend be like this----but we are inching closer to the holidays so "no" I guess not.

I am locked out of my house waiting for Dan to come home. No knitting-no books-just my Blackberry. I did look for a key and found this old amber colored key for my first car-a 73 Gremlin! Why do we have a key from the 70's but no house key tucked away is the question.

Another one!! Another red apple left by a kindly human for our furry friends at the park. Awhile back I posted a picture of one in a fallen tree trunk. Today I saw one higher up, wedged in a knot hole. I am intrigued and eye everyone on the trail to see if they have a bag of apples. Oregon Ohio's version of Johnny Appleseed!

This is just for laughs. I was going through my Charleston pictures and found this. We had turned a corner on a street and saw this horse's a------I mean, butt. I thought of several funny things I could do with this---such as posting on facebook and tagging someones name to to the tail end of the horse. But, everytime I see this picture, I have to smile.

My ideal job would be the person who give the names to the different colors of Crayola Crayons!! So I've decided to name each sock creation I finish. This pair is for Dan(he picked out the yarn in Charleston) and I am going to call it Golden Autumn Day. Finally off the needles and ready to wear. Next up is a pair for Jonelle and I think it will be called Valentine's Day. Guess what color they will be!

A great weekend sure makes facing Monday's a lot easier. We had golden autumn days---albeit a bit nippy. We celebrated Matt's birthday, we had Adam and Jonelle visiting, we celebrated our Parish church's 125th anniversary and we visited an antique sale. It is no won!der I felt happy all day today

Beautiful, crisp, sunny fall day so we took a road trip. Up to the Ann Arbor Antique Show. This show used to be HUGE but I suppose it too is suffering with the economy. We still had fun though and I found the perfect Christmas present for my brother.Adam and Jonelle found their treasure on the way home at a barn sale----an old 4 pane window with old glass in it that they are going to scrub up and use as picture frames. I wish I had taken a picture of the barn sale---a pretty old red barn with treasures in the front framed by yellow autumn leaves. I didn't want to ask Dan to turn the car and go back so I could take a picture so you will just have to use your imagination on that one.

There's a lot of beautiful autumn-ish things I could have taken a picture of--but instead I can't think of anything at the moment more beautiful than Hungarian Dumplings. They start out as a mixture with the consistancy of wallpaper paste and end up as light, plump little pillows. Yum!

Happy Birthday Matt. 31 years ago today, the sweet little baby in the picture entered the world and we became a family. Has it really been 31 years? It has been a wonderful journey---a lot has changed and a lot has stayed the same. The t-ball player still loves to watch baseball, the little boy who would carry a huge stack of books into our bedroom and say "read me a story" still loves to read and the love we felt at our first glimpse of this tiny baby has only grown stronger through the years.

When life gives you rain and drizzle, make a fire!! It's our FIRST fire of the season and it is an event as special to us as the FIRST snowfall, the FIRST tulip, the FIRST ice on the pond, or the FIRST robin. So tonite I will be curled up with a book in front of our FIRST fire.

Someone has been hiding red apples in the park. You can see them as you walk along the trail and they look so pretty against the fall landscape. I assume some kind hearted soul is feeding the deer and other wildlife.

Saturday, October 10, 2009

They are here----Ohio Apples. Our local produce stand doesn't have their usual selection so I went to the Farmer's Market and there they were!! Jonathons, MacIntosh's. Yellow Delicious and More.

Friday, October 9, 2009

Outside---cold, rainy day. Plans to go to football game--cancelled.

Inside----Books, knitting and a glass of wine. This pair of socks is for Dan. I noticed the way the orange pumpkin enhanced the stripes. Enjoy your weekend!

I love Facebook. Everything about it! Mostly because of the way it keeps me connected to friends and family----and new friends too. In ways I never would have stayed connected with just a telephone

-I think it is great the way it is so popular among those of "my generation"

-Maybe I am a voyeur but I like to see the "glimpses" of peoples daily lives

-it seems we never have to lose touch with co-workers or friends who have moved away. With just a click of the key, we are in touch.

I just have to convince Dan to get a page!!

There is only one thing on our mind today-----and it is the Detroit Tigers. If they win tonite, then the next thing on our mind will be the playoffs. Even Magglio "will wear silly hat on head for food" Gross got into the spirit of things.

"If I lived by this beautiful area, I would be here ALL the time" Well, guess what? This gorgeous park is exactly 1 mile from my house and I take it for granted ALL the time. I thought about that while "the dog in training" was on his stroll. I take way too many things for granted--even my Faith in God--who made this beautiful park. My October resolution is going to be to appreciate and give thanks for what we have MORE often. And that goes for my appreciation to people who are reading this blog. I appreciate your taking the time to stop by!

Our policy this year has been No Tomato Left Behind. We picked the last of them and then pulled the plants. We made 20 lbs of them into a Garden Tomato Soup and put a LOT of batches in the freezer--using a wonderful, healthy recipe from Cooking Light.

The temperature has dropped around here---36 this morning on my way to work. I love the Alliums I planted last year so much, that I plopped 10 more into the ground this fall. And then---next spring-spectacular HUGE blooms that will be spray painted when they fade!
