This is a great picture---taken 2 weeks ago in Greenfield Village. I was inside the Cotswold Cottage that Henry Ford moved her from England(how do you move a 17 century house AND blacksmith building is beyond my comprehension, but then again, I am not Henry Ford) and looked out the window and realized how the war occupied English must have felt with soldiers taking over their homes and gardens. All in the name of Freedom! There is an inscription etched in the window pane with the owner's name and the date from the 1600's. Incredible!

We went on a Garden Tour last weekend! In a toney, old money neighborhood. And there---hidden under the hosta leaves, was a fairy garden! And just because these homeowners have money, don't think they are too classy to spray paint their Alliums! I noticed that right away--you can't fool a flower painter! And look at this checkerboard design---I want one and I know just the spot for it. I was definately inspired!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads in the Blogosphere. We had a fine day at the Henry Ford Museum for the annual Motor Muster. It is quite a sight to see the classic cars parked in front of the historical buildings and the museum employees strolling around in period costumes. Here is a picture of our classic Dan alongside a classic car. The English Cotswold cottage was inhabited by WW2 vehicles, soldiers and signs. I could swear this sign said SWEET GIRLS, not STREET GIRLS!!!! And finally we took in an old time baseball game---the Lah-Di-Dahs against the Nationals and they didn't use mitts. Authentic costumes and rules. We all yelled HUZZAH during the good plays and YOU MUFFED IT during the errors.

Our beekeeping adventure is progressing nicely. They seem to be doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing-------and today when we peeked in, we saw the Queen!!!!! She is the little creature with the white dot on her back. We used our bee suits and used our smoker but next time--no smoker. The bees just let us do our thing and we let them do theirs. One little bee came after me, but I quitely walked away and eventually she returned to the hive. Love these little creatures!!!!

They are here! Ohio homegrown strawberries!! And these are from the Farmer's Market and were advertised as "pesticide free".

And these Rhubarb stalks have been around for a few weeks. I planted my own this year but I will have to be patient for a few years.

In they all go---to the food processor and a few steps later----Strawberry Rhubarb Jam!! I don't have a jar to show because I gave them away to friends but this coming weekend I am going to make a batch for my bagels----and toast----and muffins!

"Ernie, We Want him Back". I still want him back but he is in God's hands now. He was the voice of the Detroit Tigers on the radio for many many years. He had a golden voice and was a true Southern gentleman---old school in a modern world. He lived to see the installation of this statue in Comerica Park---and it is a true likeness. He died last year and leaves behind many fans---myself included. Several weeks ago we were leaving the ballpark and decided to meet up at the Ernie statue after making some pit stops. It was so touching to watch the people file past. Some people patted the statues arm and said "Oh Ernie"--quite a few people rubbed the elbow-a few adults and children climbed up on the pedestal for a pic with Ernie(and the gate attendants didn't scold them) and many had tears in thier eyes. There was a bouquet of flowers at his feet and I heard one man say he has never been in the stadium since Ernie's death that he hasn't seen the flowers left behind by a fan.

Listen closely to this video and you can hear the beautiful music of bees buzzing. We opened the hive yesterday and were amazed by several things. The bees are LARGE and most of the upright frames have honeycombs. Time to add more frames for more production. The queen is out of her cage and they were so loud!! The video quality is poor but I had my bee gloves on.

Life is a bowl--of cherries!! Life is a bowl of cherries? I am not sure what the connection is between life and cherries but it sounds good. And looks good! And tastes even better. These cherries aren't destined for anything special but to be eaten. No pie--no cobbler--no crisp. But when their sour cousins come to fruition(no pun intended) I have big plans for a Cherry Bounce!! Cherries, whiskey and rock candy! And come Christmas we will politely have a Cherry Cordial-just a small one---and then when nobody is looking we will sneak the Cherry and--------Bounce!
